Alyssa + Phil's Downtown Ann Arbor and Nichols Arboretum Engagement Photos

I've been spending a lot of time in Ann Arbor recently photographing engagement shoots for my 2017 Michigan brides. You really can't go wrong shooting in Ann Arbor, especially in fall.

Alyssa and Phil were one of the first Michigan couples to book me after I announced my move back. Alyssa and I instantly connected because she had just recently moved back from the Boston area, too, and we had actually even attended the same graduate school- Northeastern! I loved working with these two, and can't wait to shoot their Detroit area wedding next year!

Eberly + Taylor's University of Michigan Engagement Photos

When I moved, I'd heard how gorgeous the Law Quad at University of Michigan was, and how popular it was for photos. I am so glad that Eberly and Taylor agreed to let me take their engagement photos there- it did not disappoint! It was beautiful! I'm super excited to work with Taylor and Eberly (who totally has a movie star name, am I right??) next year for their Detroit area wedding!

East Lansing Family Portrait Photographer

Let's face it: holiday photos are stressful! Finding the perfect outfits, making sure everyone has a hair cut, packing snacks, coming up with bribes, and dealing with behavior from less than enthusiastic participants are all some of the things we go through leading up to our holiday photo shoots. Well, let me tell you, photographers are not immune to these occurrences, either.

You'd think as a photographer, I would have my child's holiday photos planned out perfectly. Reality is that you are so busy photographing other families, engagements and weddings, that sometimes your own family photos fall to the wayside. Case in point: I didn't have our holiday or Julian's birthday photos set up (his birthday is in November so I have been combining them), but when there was a cancellation at one of the mini sessions, I called Grandma (who was babysitting), told her to throw him in the car after nap, put on the clothes he had on the previous day, and drive him to our shooting location. We got in about 10 minutes of happy shooting before he threw up from running so hard in the cold weather (he was sick but there is no way to keep an active toddler sitting still). He also totally has a bowl haircut from an aggressive stylist from his first salon visit (I think I let out a large gasp when I saw the results of the first way-too-short snip). BUT, even though I have less than 10 good photos from our mini-mini-mini session, I am happy with them. They are Julian: active, happy, smiling, curious. I can't wait to frame this series and hang it on our wall.

So, even though they are stressful, they are totally worth it :) . Here are a few faves!

Lansing, Michigan Family Portrait Photographer

This fall has been a whirlwind as I've begun to run my business not only in Rhode Island, but also in Michigan. I was worried I would have a hard time finding places as beautiful to shoot in the Lansing area as I did in Rhode Island (purely because it's on the ocean), but I have been pleasantly surprised by stumbling upon beautiful spots like Frances Park in Lansing. I LOVE the results I'm getting from shooting at this location-- see some favorites below :) .

Fall Family Portrait Mini Sessions in Greater Lansing, Michigan

It may be 90 degrees outside, but fall is just around the corner! To beat the holiday rush for Christmas and holiday card photos and gifts, I have arranged for three days of mini sessions (and will add additional dates if the need presents itself). The locations are true to fall: an apple orchard, a Christmas tree farm, and a beautiful park with fall colors.

2016 Fall Mini Sessions are $200 + $12 MI State sales tax, and include:

  • a 40 minute photo session with up to six family members
  • a minimum of 20 high resolution digital files via download with print release
  • an online gallery for viewing, to order prints, and to share with family
  • wardrobe guides and product purchase assistance

Scheduling is now available online!

Olivia + Jay {Hope Club Wedding in Providence, RI}

Olivia and Jay were married at the Hope Club in Providence, Rhode Island. However, since I will be Michigan based soon, I was thinking about which venue in Michigan the Hope Club may be similar to. While it's not on the water, the Hope Club's interior does have a lot of similarities with the Detroit Yacht Club. There are pictures of yachts and paintings of men on the walls of both, and they both have huge, overarching windows that open and that bring in so much light. While I've really enjoyed shooting in Rhode Island's venues, I am really looking forward to exploring and getting to know all of the gorgeous venues that Michigan has to offer!

Lake Michigan Engagement Photos in South Haven, Michigan

I can't believe it, but this was my first time doing a shoot at Lake Michigan! Since I've been living out on the East Coast since 2007, I hadn't been to Lake Michigan since college. I completely forgot how beautiful it is...and how underrated. The water was so clean and clear and so blue and the sand was so white! It was gorgeous...I can't wait to get back.

I normally shoot an hour before sunset, but since Kristine and Matt were driving in from Chicago for the shoot, and since thunderstorms were being predicted in late afternoon, we decided to play it safe and do it midday. Plus, there was supposed to be cloud cover...ummm, not so much. We worked with the sun and it was hot, but Kristine and Matt were troopers. It was so much fun exploring South Haven. It was Kristine and Matt's first time visiting as we chose a location halfway between where they live in Chicago and where I live in mid-Michigan. And even though we had to deal with bright sun and hot temps, Kristine and Matt still rocked the photo session. MSU Engagement Photos in East Lansing, Michigan

Courtney and Arthur chose to have their engagement photos done on the campus of Michigan State University, one of the largest and most beautiful campuses in the country. Courtney is an alum, and after graduation, met her husband while working for USAID in Africa! Since East Lansing holds so many great memories for Courtney, the couple chose to have both their wedding and engagement photos in Lansing. Here are a few of my favorites:

Newport Engagement Photos

I am sooooo happy spring is finally here! That means we are back in the swing of things, shooting every weekend!  The winter is so long if you are a photographer, because let's face it....few people actually want photos in the freezing cold. This winter felt especially long with not one, but TWO April snowstorms!

Here are few faves from two recent Newport, Rhode Island engagement sessions, and I'm busy planning a spring Michigan trip to get in a few shoots there as well as I begin the transition to move over my business there! If you are looking to schedule spring engagement/family/senior portraits in the Lansing and/or Mid-Michigan area soon , get in touch!

Carly + Scott's Atlantic Beach Club Newport RI Wedding

Happy Anniversary, Carly and Scott! Carly and Scott got married in April, 2015...one year ago! Because I am oh SO behind in blogging, their wedding is just now making it's debut on the blog. I also have to say I am so proud of Carly and Scott- they worked hard with me on finishing their album in time for their wedding anniversary! They purchased one of my beautiful leather Signature albums. It always makes me happy when my couples choose to purchase a tangible piece of photography from their wedding that will become an heirloom and be passed down for generations.

Their spring wedding took place in Newport, Rhode Island, but don't forget, I'm now booking weddings in Michigan, too (specifically the Greater Lansing and Ann Arbor areas, as well as Lake Michigan venues, Northern Michigan, Grand Rapids, and Metro Detroit)!

Here are a few of my favorites:

Carly + Jacob's Ann Arbor Engagement Photos

Carly and Jacob are my first Ann Arbor clients! Carly and Jacob proved to be a perfect fit: they wanted an engagement shoot in Ann Arbor, and are having their wedding in Jamestown, Rhode Island this summer! How perfect is that! Because I grew up in Michigan, I visit a few times a year, and it coincided perfectly with the timing of their engagement shoot.

Here are a few of my favorites from their session this past fall in Ann Arbor.

Issy's Senior Portraits {Okemos, Michigan Senior Portrait Photography}

Now booking senior portraits in the Greater Lansing area! We have openings this fall in the months of September and October of 2016 for those seniors graduating in 2017. Based in Lansing, we serve high school seniors who go to Holt, Haslett, East Lansing, Okemos, St Johns, Mason, Charlotte, Laingsburg, Williamston, Grand Ledge, Eaton Rapids, Lansing, Dewitt, and more. Hop on over to the contact form to learn more!

Bristol, Rhode Island Family Portraits at Colt State Park

And just like that, summer is over and Christmas card season is in full swing! Where did the time go??

And I just can't believe I've been photographing this family every summer since their eldest was 11 months old! It's been so great watching their family grow. Even though they live in Florida now, they still come back to Rhode Island every summer, which means we still get to do family portraits every year. Yay!

This year, we photographed their session at beautiful Colt State Park in Bristol- my favorite park in Rhode Island.

Audrey & Keegan's Nantucket Wedding

Audrey and Keegan had a beautiful spring/summer wedding this past June in Nantucket. The ceremony and reception were at the luxurious White Elephant Hotel, and bride and groom portraits were taken at nearby Brant Point. Audrey's stunning wedding gown was from Chernaya Bridal House in Miami, by fabulous designer Sareh Nouri .

Narragansett Beach Portrait Photography

Can you believe that summer is almost over? I can't! It's gone by soooo fast. I finally managed to snap some beach portraits of baby Julian (long overdue!), and will be sharing those soon. For now, I am sharing an amazing shoot in Narragansett on the beach. I loved this shoot so much, because not only did it capture photos of two sweet families on vacation, but it captured photos of their daughters, who are preschool best friends (how cute is that?!), together! It was so stinking' cute!

Which brings me to my next point....

Did you know that we have somewhat of a "Best Friends" promotion going on right now? Book your session on the same day at the same location consecutively, and you will each receive 20% off of the session fee! And we can even snap a few photos of the best friends together in between the sessions :) .

This goes for all sessions: family, baby, high school seniors...and can be done this summer or fall! So, take advantage!

Oh, and if you book your fall session by September 1st, you receive ANOTHER 20% OFF...how great is that?? And yes, the offers can be combined :).

Jane + Nick's Linden Place Wedding in Bristol, Rhode Island

Jane and Nick were married at Linden Place in Bristol, Rhode Island on a beautiful 75 degree day in April....not a cloud in the sky! Jane's gorgeous flowers were by Flowers by Semia, and her hair and makeup was by Ali Lomazzo Beauty.  Thank you to Olivia Gird for second shooting! And congrats to Jane and Nick on a gorgeous spring wedding!

Katie and Mike's Newport Engagement Photos

Katie and Mike chose to have their engagement session in Newport, where their wedding will be held next summer.  We almost had to cancel, as it was raining off and on all day. Since they were driving down from Boston, I wanted to be cautious, but they said let's go for it, and I'm so glad they did! We had beautiful light, and the pictures turned out amazing!

It was also a great night because it was the first time I got to meet Katie and Mike in person! Like so many couples these days, they booked me over the phone. I was happy to see that they were just as laid back and sweet as they were on the phone :) . I'm thrilled to be shooting their Belle Mer wedding next July!
